Splinterlands Review #25 / Life Card / Chaos Knight

Blockchain games are on 🔥🔥 and Splinterlands is one of them. Splinterlands is one of my favorite games so far. If you are new to this game, read this. In this splinterlands review, I am going to share one of the gameplays and talk about some cards I used. Hope you enjoy it!

Featured Card: Chaos Knight

Chaos Knight is a common life tank with ‘shield’ ability with 6 mana cost. It gets ‘giant killer’ ability on level 5, and ‘inspire’ ability on level 9. It has relatively lower health but higher armor than other tanks. The max level for the silver league is 5 and you need 60 cards to make it level 5.

The Battle

The battle was held in the silver league. The mana cap was 16 and the rulesets were ‘Healed Out’ and ‘Lost Magic’. I picked a dragon team with life splinter cards. The cards that I used were;

– Kretch Tallevor
– Chaos Knight
– Furious Chicken
– Silvershield Bard
– Scavo Hireling
– Uraeus

The enemy team was a water team with Kelya as a summoner. The cards that the opponent used were;

– Kelya Frendul
– Hardy Stonefish
– Albatross
– Deeplurker
– Kulu Swimhunter
– Furious Chicken

Kretch Tallevor is an epic summoner without any buff. Cheaper Dragon summoners usually cost 4~5 mana, however Kretch only costs 3 mana. This saved mana may be used to place one or two more low-cost monsters.

Chaos Knight is a 6 mana cost tank with the shield ability. Compared to Silvershield Paladin, it has 1 less health but more shield and attack stats. Tanks with the shield ability are very helpful in most of the battles. For instance, they can be used as main tanks or sneak blockers in the back end.

Furious Chicken is a very popular card because of its utility. It only has 1 speed and 1 health, but since it costs no mana it can really be put anywhere anytime. It can fill up an empty spot and take some damage. It is especially great when used with Mylor, because it can give the enemy one more thorns attack!

Silvershield Bard is a 1 mana cost life unit with ‘cleanse’ ability. Cleanse is especially useful in the ‘Noxious Fumes’ ruleset. Due to its low health and low cost mana, it can also be a good filler card and be an opportunity blocker.

Scavo Hireling is a neutral monster with the repair ability. Before the Chaos Legion came out, Armorsmith was the only level 1 monster with the repair ability. However, since we have Scavo Hireling now, teams and battles can have more dynamics. One thing that I am not happy with is its low health but it gets better by leveling up.

Uraeus is one of the newest reward cards and my favorite one. It is a neutral sneak attacker, so it is very versatile. It has 2 melee attack on level 2, and can be used in the silver league. There is a huge difference between 1 and 2 melee attacks. So if you are gonna use the card, it is recommended to make it level 2.

■ Tell us about your lineup. Explain why you put each card in that position and why they are a good fit with the monster.

The core units of my team were Chaos Knight and Scavo Hireling. Chaos Knight was my main tank and it was placed in the front end. I placed Uraeus in the back end to block possible sneak attacks, because it has armor. I put 2 filler units, which were Furious Chicken and Silvershield Bard, in between Chaos Knight and Scavo Hireling to protect Scavo Hireling from possible snipe or opportunity attacks.

■ Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Since one of the rulesets was ‘Lost Magic’, I chose Chaos Knight and Scavo Hireling as my core units of my team. The team would’ve been sturdier, if I had Truthspeaker in my team but I was out of mana.

■ Do you like the monster? Why or why not?

Chaos Knight has a similar role to Silvershield Paladin in lower leagues. It has less health compared to Paladin, however it will learn 2 interesting abilities─Giant Killer and Inspire. It makes a good synergy when it is placed in the front end and Shieldbearer is placed in the second position. Since main tanks are usually melee attackers, ‘shield’ ability is useful. Furthermore, when it gets ‘Giant Killer’ ability, it might finish off enemy tanks easier.
