What is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital, collectible card game built on blockchain technology. It is similar in concept to games like Magic the Gathering and Hearthstone where you build up a collection of cards, which all have various different stats and abilities, and use them to battle other players in skill-based matches. By using blockchain technology, players can buy, sell, and trade their digital assets freely just as if they were physical cards, and all transactions are recorded publicly and immutably. *
@splinterlands is a @play2earn card game built on blockchain technology. There are several ways to earn real money playing the game. Also if you own cards on your account, that means you really ‘own’ it and nobody can take it away from you. You can sell or rent your cards to other players.

One of the things that I really like about this game is I don’t have to spend too much time on it. When the match begins you can click the fast forward button and play it 2x or 3x speed. There is also a ‘skip to results’ button so that you can see the result right away. This feature can save us so much time and still enjoy the game.
This is a quick guide to Splinterlands.
This is more detailed documentation about Splinterlands gameplay. (I don’t think this link is on the Splinterlands website, and it was hard to find it. I don’t know why the link is missing, but I hope they put the link on the website.)
How to Start?
Splinterlands is free to play, however in order to earn real-valued rewards and unlock the full potential of blockchain-based gaming, players are required to obtain the Summoner’s Spellbook. The Summoner’s Spellbook can be purchased in the in-game shop for $10 via PayPal or various cryptocurrencies. Purchasing the Summoner’s Spellbook allows you to choose a unique account name, access your blockchain account keys, unlock the ability to earn rewards with real value, and more! **
Splinterlands
You get starter cards after you bought the Summoner’s Spellbook. It gives you more than 90 cards that you can use in battles. There is an ‘S mark’ on every starter card. You do not own those cards, so you cannot sell it or rent it out. You can only use them in battles.
Featured Card - 'Cave Slug'
Splinterlands
I want to introduce one monster to you. You can find this ‘Cave Slug’ in Baluthar’s Deep. Unlike a normal slug we know, it is a fast monster. Maybe that’s why it has the ability ‘Opportunity’. This ability lets the monster attack from any position and target the enemy monster with the lowest health. It seems like a Death splinter*** monster but it is actually a Life splinter monster. Level 1 Cave Slug costs 5 mana and has 2 melee attack, 1 speed, and 4 health. 1 speed is kind of low, but 2 attack and the opportunity ability can make it up.
***Splinter : There are six sources of magic in the Splinterlands. Which are FIRE, WATER, EARTH, LIFE, DEATH, and DRAGON. Each of these primal forces is championed by distinct factions known as Splinters. A Summoner uses magic to call upon the various races, habitats, and creatures that exist within the same Splinter. For example, a Summoner of the Earth Splinter will be able to call forth monsters that live in the mountains and forests.
There are also NEUTRAL monsters, which can be used with any kind of splinters. For example, a water summoner can summon/use water and neutral monsters, and a death summoner can summon death and neutral monsters. Dragon splinter is a little bit different because it is a rare splinter. A dragon summoner can team up with one of the other splinters. (You can choose it.) For example, if you choose a dragon summoner and team up with life splinter, you can summon dragon, life, and neutral monsters.
'Cave Slug' in the battle
Splinterlands
■ Tell us about your lineup. Explain why you put each card in that position and why they are a good fit with the monster.
I used Clay Golem and Crystal Werewolf, expecting the enemy team would be a magic deck, but I was wrong. I placed Cave Slug in the back end so that it can attack as much as possible hoping there is no enemy monster with sneak ability. Chicken is in second place to take damage one time and earn me one more turn.
■ Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
The enemy Goblin Mech finished my tank pretty quickly and put me in danger, but my Cave Slug dealt most of the damage to the enemy team and luckily led me to victory. This battle was in low mana rule, so if I get to play a game with sufficient mana, I will place a tanky monster behind the Cave Slug to protect it from monsters with sneak ability.
■ Do you like the monster? Why or why not?
Even though Cave Slug has low speed, 2 attack with opportunity ability is quite good. Due to the low speed, it misses the enemy from time to time. At level 10, it gets ‘Slow’ ability which reduces the speed of all enemy monsters, but I don’t know whether I will ever get level 10 Cave Slug in the future.
I’m really enjoying the game! All the strategies and battles are exciting and fun. What do you guys think? Do you wanna know more about Splinterlands? Stay tuned. In the next article, I will talk about another monster and battles.
