What is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital, collectible card game built on blockchain technology. It is similar in concept to games like Magic the Gathering and Hearthstone where you build up a collection of cards, which all have various different stats and abilities, and use them to battle other players in skill-based matches. By using blockchain technology, players can buy, sell, and trade their digital assets freely just as if they were physical cards, and all transactions are recorded publicly and immutably. *
@splinterlands is a @play2earn card game built on blockchain technology. There are several ways to earn real money playing the game. Also if you own cards on your account, that means you really ‘own’ it and nobody can take it away from you. You can sell or rent your cards to other players.

Splinterlands
One of the things that I really like about this game is I don’t have to spend too much time on it. When the match begins you can click the fast forward button and play it 2x or 3x speed. There is also a ‘skip to results’ button so that you can see the result right away. This feature can save us so much time and still enjoy the game.
This is a quick guide to Splinterlands.
This is more detailed documentation about Splinterlands gameplay. (I don’t think this link is on the Splinterlands website, and it was hard to find it. I don’t know why the link is missing, but I hope they put the link on the website.)
How to Start?
Splinterlands is free to play, however in order to earn real-valued rewards and unlock the full potential of blockchain-based gaming, players are required to obtain the Summoner’s Spellbook. The Summoner’s Spellbook can be purchased in the in-game shop for $10 via PayPal or various cryptocurrencies. Purchasing the Summoner’s Spellbook allows you to choose a unique account name, access your blockchain account keys, unlock the ability to earn rewards with real value, and more! **

You get starter cards after you bought the Summoner’s Spellbook. It gives you more than 90 cards that you can use in battles. There is an ‘S mark’ on every starter card. You do not own those cards, so you cannot sell it or rent it out. You can only use them in battles.
Featured Card - 'Scavenger'
Splinterlands
Scavenger is an ability that lets a monster gain 1 max health each time any monster dies. So either monsters on a friendly team or an enemy team dies, a monster with a scavenger ability gains 1 health each time. It is kind of like self healing. There are many monsters that have a scavenger ability, but I think the ability shines with higher health stats. And that’s why I chose to review a card named ‘Gelatinous Cube’. I bought the card just to try out and it became one of my favorite cards so far. Gelatinous Cube is a neutral splinter*** monster. Its 8 health with 6 mana stats are very good, even though it does not have any attack stat. It is a robust card and very useful when you don’t have or can’t use a tank with void(An ability that reduces damage from magic attacks.). And one more reason that I like Gelatinous Cube is that the skull inside the cube looks too cute.
***Splinter : There are six sources of magic in the Splinterlands. Which are FIRE, WATER, EARTH, LIFE, DEATH, and DRAGON. Each of these primal forces is championed by distinct factions known as Splinters. A Summoner uses magic to call upon the various races, habitats, and creatures that exist within the same Splinter. For example, a Summoner of the Earth Splinter will be able to call forth monsters that live in the mountains and forests.
There are also NEUTRAL monsters, which can be used with any kind of splinters. For example, a water summoner can summon/use water and neutral monsters, and a death summoner can summon death and neutral monsters. Dragon splinter is a little bit different because it is a rare splinter. A dragon summoner can team up with one of the other splinters. (You can choose it.) For example, if you choose a dragon summoner and team up with life splinter, you can summon dragon, life, and neutral monsters.
'Scavenger' in a battle

■ Tell us about your lineup. Explain why you put each card in that position and why they are a good fit with the monster.
I usually put Gelatinous Cube behind the main tank so that it can protect dealers from the enemy monsters with ‘Snipe’ ability. I placed 3 monsters with either a scavenger or a heal ability because this was a battle with a ‘poison field’ rule. While the enemy monsters were losing health because of poison, my monster’s health remained almost the same.
■ Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
The strategy really worked out well. I might put a tank at the back end to protect my dealers from sneak attackers next time. In the future, I will definitely level up Gelatinous Cube to level 6. It gets a ‘heal’ ability on level 6. It is already quite powerful with only scavenger ability and imagine it gets a heal ability as well. It would be superb. The enemy team will be very annoyed dealing with that.
■ Do you like the monster? Why or why not?
Gelatinous Cube became one of my favorite cards and I am going to keep enjoying using it. I really like the scavenger ability. It is exciting to watch monsters die while Gelatinous Cube gains health. It often can turn the game around. Another monster with scavenger ability such as ‘Ant Miners’ is not very useful because it has very low health. It needs some time to gain health with scavenger ability but with low health, the monster dies before anything even happens.
I’m really enjoying the game! All the strategies and battles are exciting and fun. What do you guys think? Do you wanna know more about Splinterlands? Stay tuned. In the next article, I will talk about other monsters and battles.
